Sarah's Winter Wedding Story

Sarah came to me with a stunning Evie Young gown. The dress was already a showstopper, featuring incredible volume created by layers of crinoline hemmed with horsehair, delicate organza, and a layer of sparkly tulle that caught the light beautifully. However, Sarah wanted to make the gown truly her own, focusing on both the silhouette and the practicalities of a winter celebration. From the very first consultation, it was clear that this was going to be a special project. Accompanied by her lovely mum, every fitting was a celebration - filled with laughter, creative ideas, and a shared vision for the perfect winter wedding look.
The Technical Transformation: Support & Shape
The most significant change was the bodice. To ensure Sarah felt confident and secure all day, we performed several structural updates:
The Neckline: We closed the front deep V-opening for a more modest, classic look.
Internal Support: We integrated additional boning to the bodice and bra underwires into the cups.
Fine-Tuning: Added under-bust darts to provide better definition and superior support for the bust.
Creative Customisation: Sustainability in Design
One of my favourite parts of this project was re-purposing the original bolero. It wasn't quite the right fit for Sarah's style, so we re-imagined it entirely. From that single piece, we created:
Sleek, fitted slip-on sleeves - adding transparent elastic to the top edge to stop it from slipping.
Detachable off-the-shoulder straps, crafted using the off-cuts from the hem. We played with layers to achieve right fullness and colour.
Speaking of the hem, navigating six layers of structured fabric (including that horsehair braid!) required precision, but the result was a flawless length finished with a "dreamy" bustle, allowing Sarah to dance the night away with ease.

A Special Mother-of-the-Bride Touch
We believe in using every beautiful detail possible. There were some exquisite beads left over from our customisation, and in a lovely sentimental twist, Sarah’s mum used them to decorate her own outfit. It was the perfect way to subtly tie the two looks together!

A Beautiful Beginning
I was absolutely thrilled to receive the professional photos just two days after the wedding. Seeing Sarah in her customised gown, surrounded by the winter atmosphere, was the perfect reminder of why I love what I do.
Congratulations, Sarah! It was an absolute honour to bring your dream dress to life.
